Safety first: Install fire extinguishers at busy markets, says DCO
Sahiwal DCO said the teams had already conducted a survey at Saddar Market
MULTAN:
Sahiwal DCO Asif Iqbal Chauhdry has directed Rescue-1122 and Civil Defence officials to install fire extinguishers in busy markets in the district. “This will help prevent fires that could cause loss of life and property.”
Rescue-1122 Community In-Charge Nasrullah said Chauhdry had constituted joint teams of Civil Defence and Rescue 1122 to install fire extinguishers at shops in busy markets. He said the teams had already conducted a survey at Saddar Market. They had taken note of lack of fire extinguishers or old and useless fire extinguishers kept at various shops in the bazaar.
He said they had also launched an awareness campaign. “We have spoken to several shopkeepers about the importance of having fire extinguishers on standby in order to control a blaze.” Nasrullah said that most shopkeepers had not taken their warnings seriously. Markets were immediate measures need to be taken are: Saddar Bazar, Pakpattan Bazaar, Sarafa Bazar and Sori Gali. He said these are locations that fire brigades cannot reach on time if a fire erupts, he said.
