ISLAMABAD:
The serving of vermicelli, sheer khorma and sweets on Eid to guests is a long-standing component of South Asian Muslim culture.

This Eid is no different, as the sale of these food items has risen in the twin cities.

To cater to the increased demand suppliers have increased production as well.

A buyer, Aminah Hassan, at a grocery store, said that “I have bought 10 packs of vermicelli for this Eid, I used to send vermicelli to my relatives as an Eid gift and I will send it to my daughters as well, as it is an old custom.”

A house wife, Naureen Zia, said,”Every Eid I prepare sheer khorma for my family, relatives and friends.

”Confectionary producers predict an increase in sales on Chand Raat and the two days of Eid following it. Accordingly, customers have placed orders in advance to avoid standing in queues for buying these traditional delicacies.

A bakery salesman, Azhar Abbas, said, “The rush at bakeries is expected to increase during the Eid holidays”.

Health experts have also warned against consuming unhealthy products in excess during this festive period, due to its negative impact on health.
