A large number of councillors, nazims, political activists and government officials attended the match. The players of the Railway County won the toss and chose to start with bating in first six overs.
They scored a total of 77 runs. All-rounders Amir, Sagheer and Usama emerged as top scorers with 27, 19 and 10 runs, respectively.
On the other hand, players of Toofan Cricket Club scored 51 runs. Hamza Arif, Talha and Usman Pathan emerged as top scorers with 22, 21 and 7 runs, respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, HDO Spokesperson Niamat Gul drew attention to the importance of the day.
He said the UN Convention against Torture was internationally recognised on June 26, 1987.
“The purpose of the convention was to protect detainees from torture and other inhuman punishments,” he said. “Although Pakistan ratified United Nations Convention Against Torture (UNCAT) in June 2010, the cycle of torture in our detention centres has yet to be reformed.”
He also put a spotlight on the physical, psychological and social impacts of torture.
Gul urged participants to take an initiative to assist torture victims so they can lead a normal life.
