LAHORE:
The provincial government has established a special committee to reform the Punjab Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA).

The committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary Shamail Ahmad Khawaja would make recommendations for restructuring of the PPRA, standardisation of assessment methodology to get the regulatory authority accreditation from relevant institutions that certify best practices for public procurement.


The meeting observed that the PPRA had performed well during the recent wheat procurement season and the procurement of medicines at public hospitals.  The meeting observed that reforms’ committee would also be required to carve out a plan for recruitment of high qualified professionals and for promotion of e-procurement practices.  The meeting was informed that goods and services procured by the provincial government every year was to the tune of Rs800 billion-Rs900 billion. It was stressed that it was important that proper checks and balances be introduced to promote transparency in the affairs of the authority. The committee suggested announcement of a package of incentives for officials who had performed well.
