Taxation: Offices of five housing schemes sealed
PRA is taking action against all institutions that are not paying sales tax

Punjab Revenue Authority Additional Commissioner Zeeshan Nazir Khan on Friday sealed five housing schemes and fined them for not paying taxes.
A PRA spokesman said Khan had visited Garden Town, Al Qamar Town, Itefaq City Phase III, Dream Land and New Garden Town Housing Scheme and discovered that they had not paid sales tax. He said the commissioner sealed offices of the housing colonies and find the owners.
“The PRA is taking action against all institutions that are not paying sales tax,” he said. “Political interference in the drive will not be tolerated,” he said.
Cheques for scam victims
The National Accountability Bureau has recovered Rs370 million from the owners of Ali Garden Housing Scheme and distributed the money among the victims of the scam.
Brigadier Farooq Nasir Awan presided over a ceremony organised at the NAB office in this regard on Friday.
Addressing the ceremony, Awan said the NAB was making efforts to check financial wrongdoings.
“Our officers are working day and night to ensure transparency and accountability.”
Nasir urged citizens to invest their money in only approved housing schemes.
“Action against Ali Garden Housing Scheme was taken after we received scores of complaints from the victims. People had contacted the NAB for recovery of their money,” he said.
He said the owners of the housing scheme had confessed to their crimes. He said Azhar Hussain, Hassnain Zaki, Shabnam Zahra and Ambreen Zahra had admitted that they had obtained money under a housing scheme without purchasing land.
Cheques were distributed among 19 victims of the scam.
Nasir said they had claimed Rs5,516,000, but the NAB had recovered Rs13,733,749 from the suspects.
He said they had started the scheme in 2006. He said rights to property were not transferred to the buyers and no development work had been initiated since the scheme was launched.
