LAHORE:
Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafiq on Friday directed the concerned government departments to chalk out a dengue surveillance plan for Eid holidays.

He said the surveillance staff should be rotated for effective monitoring.

“Sites for dengue breeding are likely to emerge during monsoon rains. This means that the departments have to be vigilant about ensuring clean neighbourhoods and city centres so that an epidemic can be prevented.”

He was presiding over a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Dengue at the Civil Secretariat. Commissioners and DCOs of Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura and Multan participated in the meeting through video link.

Representatives of the Meteorological Department told the meeting that monsoon showers were expected in a few days.

Dengue Control Programme Additional Director General Fayyaz Butt briefed the meeting about the overall dengue situation in the Punjab.

Wasim Akram of the Chief Minister’s Dengue Research Cell stressed the need to update data of dengue patients. He said hospital administrations should work closely with the PITB. Rafique said local government departments should ensure that stagnant water was drained from graveyards.  The adviser said the Auqaf Department should pay attention to cleanliness in mosques. “Those sitting in aitekaaf should be protected from mosquito bites,” he said.  Rafiq said he would visit the field during Eid holidays to monitor the performance of the teams.
