Amjad Sabri's soul-stirring qawwalis have left thousands, if not millions, in tears, but no one could have ever predicted that his last performance would be one where he wouldn't be able hold back his own.

The legendary qawwal appeared on Samaa TV's Sehri transmission the day he was shot dead. What's strange is that while reciting his last naat -- Ae Sabz Gumbad Wale Manzoor Dua Karna -- Amjad couldn't hold back his tears; almost as if he knew what lay ahead.

What's even more daunting is that the topic of the show was life after death. Hosts Sadia Imam and Bilal Qutab got sentimental as Sabri began his recitation.

Nation mourns Amjad Sabri's death

"Main Qabr Andheri Main, Ghabraon Ga Jab Tanha, Imdad Meri Kerne, Aa Jana Rasool Allah. Roshan Meri Turbath Ko Ay Noor-e-Khuda Karna. Jab Waqt-e-Nazah Aaye Deedar Ataa Karna."

(When I anguish in my gloomy grave, please come to my rescue O’ Prophet (pbuh). Enlighten my eternal abode O’ Light of God (pbuh).

Please allow me to catch a glimpse of your (PBUH) face when I am about to die)

Sad day: Music fraternity shocked

The emotion in the room hit a crescendo at the very end when Amjad closed with the following lines, not being able to hold back his tears.

"Ae Sabz Gumbad Wale Manzoor Dua Karna. Jab Waqt-e-Nazah Aye Deedar Ataa Karna."

(Please accept my prayers O’ the resident of the green dome [Khizra]. Please allow me to catch a glimpse of Your (pbuh) face when I am about to die.)

We can only pray his prayers were granted.

Here's the gut-wrenching performance:
