Benazir assassination case: Police officers sent on judicial remand

Public Prosecutor tells court officers did not cooperate during their physical remand and had decieved FIA officials.

RAWALPINDI:
Former City Police Officer Saud Aziz and Superintendent Police Khurram Shahzad were sent on judicial remand for two weeks by an anti-terrorism court (ATC), following their 24-day physical remand earlier.

During the course of the hearing, both police officers were produced before ATC Judge Rana Nasir Ahmed.

Public Prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar told the court that the officers did not cooperate during their physical remand and had deceived the FIA officials. He requested the court to send them to jail.

Investigation Officer Asghar Jatoi told the court that both officials still had not given the mobile-phone sets which were in their use on December 27, 2007.

“The first time around Saud Aziz gave a mobile phone belonging to his son and the second time he gave mobile phones of 2008 and 2009 models. After forensic laboratory tests it was proven that this phone was not used by the police official and in fact was in the use of Ramzan (who is a resident of Karachi),” he informed the court.
