Nominating stalwarts: PTI starts announcing interim set-up
Imran issues notifications, appointing Qureshi as party’s vice-chairman
ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) started on Tuesday the process of installing an interim set up, nominating two of its stalwarts -- Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Jahangir Khan Tareen.
PTI’s Chairman Imran Khan issued two separate notifications, appointing Qureshi as the party’s Vice-Chairman and Tareen as Secretary-General. Both leaders had been given the same offices in the previous set-up.
The move is aimed at building up momentum and launching an aggressive protest campaign against the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) over Panama Papers. The PTI had warned the government to launch its agitation campaign after the end of Ramzan.
“The process of installing the party’s interim setup is likely to be completed in the next couple of weeks,” a senior party office-bearer told The Express Tribune.
The next likely notification would be about the appointment of Saifullah Niazi as the Additional Secretary-General of the party. Later, appointments would be made at provincial level.
Punjab is likely to be divided into four regions and former Punjab governor Chaudhry Sarwar is a strong candidate as a regional head. But, no decision has yet been taken in this regard.
The interim set-up would look after affairs of their respective wings till the next intra-party elections.
