ABBOTABAD: The media fraternity protested against an attack on staff members of a private channel by Pesco officials on Tuesday.

The protest was led by a senior journalist Muhammad Ashfaq and Sardar Zakirur Rehman. Journalists marched from Fawara Chowk to the DPO office, shouting slogans against Pesco officials. They were carrying placards and banners demanding the arrest of Pesco officials who were involved in the incident.

An official of Cantonment police said Haseeb, one of the reporters of the TV channel, and his team reached the Pesco office for coverage after receiving complaints against billing and unannounced load-shedding. He added a group of Pesco officials, led by Jamil Tanoli and Liaquat, attacked the media team and thrashed them.

The attackers also broke cameras, technical instruments and damaged their van. As a result of the attack, Haseeb, Mehtab Abbasi, Saifur Rehman Siafi and Tahir Mehmood were injured.

Meanwhile, police registered a criminal case against Tanoli and his accomplices under sections 337 F, 506, 147 and 149, but no arrest had been made thus far.

On the other hand, Pesco officials accused the private TV channel of causing interference in official work and lodged an FIR under sections 186 and 506 of the PPC.
