Bail Challenged: LHC summons gang-rape suspect
The judge observed that gang rape was shameful but victim’s denial was even more shameful
LAHORE:
Justice Shahid Hameed Dar of Lahore High Court issued a notice on Monday on Prosecution Department’s appeal against a trial court order of granting bail to a gang-rape suspect, Adnan Sanaullah. A sessions court had granted bail to Sanaullah, formerly a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz office-bearer, after the victim submitted an affidavit saying that he had not raped her. The judge observed that gang rape was shameful but victim’s denial was even more shameful. The judge summoned the suspect for a hearing next week. Police say the 15-year-old, a resident of Multan Road, was raped by eight men on December 26, 2015, and abandoned while unconscious in a guesthouse on The Mall, Lahore.
