Defying orders: Bailable warrant issued for LERP director
He failed to appear in court with petitioner’s records despite clear directives.
KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued on Monday bailable warrants for the arrest of the project director of the Lyari Expressway Rehabilitation Project (LERP) for not appearing in court despite court’s clear directives.
A division bench, headed by Justice Nadeem Akhtar, directed the relevant SSP to arrest and produce the project director in the court by June 27.
The bench was hearing a petition regarding non-payment of compensation to the petitioner, Gul Jan, whose land was acquired for the project.
The petitioner, who is working in the high court as gardener, said he was allotted two plots No 622 and 625 in return of his land. However, one of Jan’s area residents, Sher Khan, got one of the plots alloted to his relatives in connivance with deputy district officer (revenue) and district coordination officer.
At the last hearing, the judges had directed the project director to appear in the court with the relevant record relating to the petitioner’s plot.
On Monday, the officer was absent despite being served a notice, which irked the bench members.
“In the circumstances, we have no other option but to issue bailable warrant in sum of Rs100,000 against the project director of LERP to appear in person in terms of order dated June 13, 2016,” ordered the judges.
They ordered the relevant SSP to execute the warrant on the officer and produce him in court on June 27.
