The protest of lecturers working on an ad hoc basis in Fata entered its 38th day on Friday. They have been protesting since May 11, 2016 for their salaries.
Outside the Peshawar Press Club, representatives of the teachers said there were 213 men and women lecturers working on an ad hoc basis in different colleges. He added their salaries had been stopped since September 2015. The lecturers comprise half of the staff at Fata’s 37 colleges’.
They were appointed in 2011 by the provincial government in all the seven agencies of the tribal areas to work ad hoc. However, they also demanded job security.
“We have been working on deputation in difficult areas of Fata without an allowance,” teachers’ association president Afsar Khan said. “Our lives are at risk by working in the hotbed of terrorism, Fata, but salaries have not been released for the last 10 months.”
