Arrested: Gang of police officials looting citizens busted
Officials would blackmail people, extort money
ISLAMABAD:
Police have busted a gang of police officials allegedly involved in blackmailing and looting people.
At least two separate cases have been registered at the Margalla Police Station against the suspects including Muhammad Nadeem, Aftab Ahmed, Jabar Hussain — all police officials — and Adnan Sajjad, a driver in the Cabinet Division.
The suspects have been sent on a judicial remand.
The first FIR was registered on June 3 after a man complained to the police that two police officials stopped him in Sector F-8 and snatched Rs50,000 from him.
After the incident, the victim approached the Margalla police and lodged a complaint against the unidentified officials.
The police and the victim identified the suspects with the help of CCTV cameras installed at places the suspects had taken the victim to.
The four police officials were arrested two days later.
Three of the suspects — Nadeem, Aftab and Adnan — were also booked in another FIR, registered on June 11, for extorting Rs15,000 from a young section officer.
Police said the officer was visiting Centaurus Mall with his fiancée, when the suspects approached them saying they would take them to the police station. They extorted Rs15,000 from him.
The three suspects were produced before a judicial magistrate on Tuesday, who sent them to Adiala Jail on a 14-day remand
