The city traffic police have launched an anti-encroachment operation against transporters, Traffic SSP Sharif Jutt said on Tuesday.
He said they had received complaints about transporters who did not stick to the routes assigned to them. “They have been assigned arrival and departure terminals, yet these vehicles often ply main roads and cause traffic jams.”
Nankana encroachments: Operation against encroachers abandoned
On Tuesday, several transporters held a demonstration at Kutchehri Square against the traffic police’s operation. They shouted slogans against the district government and the traffic police. “They have created unnecessary hurdles for us,” a protester said.
DCO Nadir Chattha said the district government, the traffic police and the civil society were on the same page regarding transporters’ encroachments on the main routes in the city. “We are committed to removing these encroachments entirely.”

He said transporters would often be the cause of traffic jams at Vehari Square, Kumharanwala Chowk, Chungi 9, Nawan Shehar and others.
He said that transporters had been told to stick to their allotted places and terminals.
“We do not plan on giving them a series of warnings. We will take action against any transporters found to be violating this order.”
