Bogus or genuine? Advocate files criminal case against ex-husband
Both say other person threatened and tortured.
RAWALPINDI:
A man has approached the regional police officer (RPO) complaining that his ex-wife, an advocate, had gotten a fake criminal case registered with the Civil Lines police against him.
After receiving the complaint, the RPO, Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja, started an inquiry against Sub-Inspector (SI) Awais Akram, in-charge of police post at district courts in the limits of Civil Lines police.
The SI was also the investigation officer in the case registered against Imran Raza, the complainant.
Raza, a private contractor in Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited lodged a complaint with the RPO stating that his ex-wife, Advocate Ayesha Manzoor Abbasi, had gotten a bogus case registered against him, allegedly in collaboration with the police.
He added that he had not threatened her ex-wife or tortured other lawyers in the district court premises.
In fact, Raza said, his ex-wife with the help of other lawyers had subjected him to torture in the court premises.
The complainant told the RPO that he needed to investigate the allegations and provide him justice.
Taking action, the RPO had summoned SI Akram to his office on Monday.
Earlier, Abbasi appeared before the Civil Lines police and told that she sued Raza.
I along with fellow lawyers Nazmeen, Abida and Nargis Bashir were going to attend hearing of the case in the court of judge Jawad Alam Qureshi on June 8, when Raza, Shakil Bhatti, Aftab Ahmed and three unidentified persons attacked them in the courtroom, she said.
Abbasi accused the men of beating them and other lawyers with broken pieces of wooden chairs and hurling threats of dire consequences.
The police have registered a case against Raza and others under Section 506 of Pakistan Penal Code and started investigation.
Civil Lines police have arrested two accused Raza and Ahmed and obtained their physical remand.
In her complaint against Raza, Abbasi had said that she got separated from her ex-husband and had filed a law suit against him.
She said that he was angry with her for pursuing the case in a civil court.
Abbasi had alleged that her ex-husband had continuously been threatening her and her family.
When contacted by The Express Tribune, Abbasi denied that she implicated her ex-husband in a false case.
She said that Raza had been threatening her and her family members of dire consequences.
“Imran wanted to stop me from pursuing the case that is why he has been threatening me,” she said.
Inspector Shujat Ali Babar, in-charge of the RPO Complaint Cell, confirmed the development saying the RPO took notice of “injustice” done by SI Akram and held an inquiry against him.
