Overcharging: Over 1,100 shopkeepers fined

ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA) during its ongoing drive to implement official rate lists and hygiene regulations have imposed fines of over Rs2 million on more than 1,100 shopkeepers.

An ICTA spokesperson on Sunday said that the drive against overcharging and substandard food items was in full swing across the capital. He said 1,119 shopkeepers had been fined Rs2,063,400 since the start of Ramazan.


On Sunday, the ICT officials inspected 622 shops in different areas of the capital and sent 13 shopkeepers to judicial lock-up for violating the rate list and hygiene regulations. They also imposed fines of Rs518,000 on 247 violators.

All assistant commissioners and price magistrates have been assigned areas to carry out inspections. People can contact the offices of deputy commissioner and additional deputy commissioner (general) to lodge complaints against overcharging or quality of food items.
