The live album comprises 10 hours worth of recordings that feature as many as 65 musicians from Pakistan, India, UK, Germany, France and Turkey. Recorded between 2009 and 2015, it includes names such as Ustad Rais Khan, Ustad Naseeruddin Saami, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan, Grammy-winner Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, the Gundecha Brothers and Ashraf Sharif Khan. Furthermore, acts as diverse as Sam Carter, Caravan Quartet, Julian Joseph, Abaji and Simon Thacker have also recorded for Indus Raag 2 – Karachi Concerts.
Tehzeeb Foundation set to release sequel to Pakistan's first Grammy entry
Talking to The Express Tribune, album producer and Tehzeeb Foundation patron Sharif Awan said, “The tracks can be accessed via indusraag.com.” He said they are also in talks with music streaming platforms, such as Patari, that will also host the album. “The physical copy of the album comprises six audio CDs and a DVD. The set will be available in the market in the second half of July,” he added.
Awan said the album aims to celebrate the musical and cultural diversity of Karachi. “The city has a fused culture of its own. This album aims to encapsulate that,” he added.
Initiated under the auspices of the foundation that was established in 2008, the Indus Raag Project aims to archive and promote the legacy of sub-continental music tradition.
