Celebrating local authors: HEC gives national award to OUP book  

The HEC awards, introduced in 2006, grant an award every year to a publication for its originality

KARACHI: An Oxford University Press (OUP) Pakistan publication was judged the winner of the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) national award for ‘Best Book Publication in Social Sciences, 2013-14’ on Friday. ‘Old World Empires: Cultures of Power and Governance in Eurasia’, written by Ilhan Niaz is a historical survey of the origins, development and nature of state power in Eurasia, stated the OUP statement issued on Friday. Niaz is an assistant professor of history at the Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. The HEC awards, introduced in 2006, grant an award every year to a publication for its originality, value to the academic community and policy makers, and contribution to further advancement of knowledge through the quality of empirical evidence, research and new insights provided by the book.
