Anaesthesiologists willing to work with district headquarters hospitals (DHQ) and tehsil headquarters hospitals (THQs) will be offered Rs2,500 per case under a new scheme introduced to overcome shortage of anaesthesia specialists in public hospitals, Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique was informed at a meeting of the Health Department.
Primary and Secondary Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan and Health Services Director General Mukhtar Hussain Syed were also present.
The Disease Prevention Programme and promotion and recruitment of doctors and nurses were reviewed during the meeting.
The meeting was told that posts for anaesthesiologists had been advertised. Rafique was told that a website of Primary and Secondary Health had been set up with the help of Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).
He was told that the department had planned clustering of Basic Health Units to improve access to health facilities. Procurement of medicines and chemicals and performance of dengue, polio and AIDS control programmes was also evaluated.
Additional Secretary Adnan Zafar said a screening programme for prisoners had been launched under which 50,000 inmates would be tested for various diseases.
A complaint mechanism was being evolved with the help of the PITB at all DHQ hospitals, he added.
