ISLAMABAD:
A judicial magistrate has summoned Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Sheikh Rohale Asghar on July 16 to be indicted in a hit-and-run case.

The MNA appeared before the Additional Sessions Judge (West), Muhammad Atta Rabbani, on Thursday.

The court confirmed the bail-before-arrest plea of the suspect and handed over the case to Judicial Magistrate (West) Hamayun Dilawar for trial.

‘Murder by mistake’: Court issues arrest warrants for ruling party MNA

The magistrate has summoned the MNA on July 16 for indictment.

Kohsar police had booked Asghar for allegedly killing Raz Muhammad, a security guard of a private firm, while he was walking on a footpath in Blue Area.

Police had booked Asghar for “murder by mistake by rash and negligent driving”.

The incident took place on August 10, 2015, but the case was registered on February 20 this year after the victim’s wife moved the court.

Shaheen Bibi, the victim’s wife, maintained in the FIR that her husband was walking on a footpath when he was hit by a car GAA-124.

He was rushed to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) but could not survive.

She said the car was being driven by the MNA, who, she said was apparently drunk at the time.

Bibi said the victim was the sole breadwinner of the family.

Additional District and Session Judge (West) Muhammad Atta Rabbani had ordered the police to register a case against the suspect.

During previous hearings, police had informed the court that Asghar was not even in the car, and that it was being driven by his driver, Zulfiqar.
