Defending Eobi Chief: SC seeks reply over lawyers’ fee

The court asked him to file reply on behalf of EOBI and law ministry within 15 days

The top court has sought reply from EOBI and law ministry over the payment of Rs50 million in fees to various lawyers to defend ex- chairman EOBI Zafar Iqbal Gondal. The three judge bench, headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar took up sou motu case regarding the payment of millions of rupees to the lawyers by the EOBI without permission of law ministry.  During the hearing, Deputy Attorney General Sohail Mahmood appeared before the bench. The court asked him to file reply on behalf of EOBI and law ministry within 15 days. A senior official in the law ministry told The Express Tribune that as per rules, no federal department can hire without the permission of law ministry.
