Police reluctant to arrest former IG’s son

Muhammad Ali, ex-Islamabad IG Bani Amin’s son, has been booked in two cases

ISLAMABAD: Police are yet to arrest son of a former inspector general (IG) of Islamabad Police who has been booked in two cheque fraud cases.

Muhammad Ali, son of former Islamabad IG Bani Amin, has been nominated in two separate FIRs registered against him at Kohsar Police Station for issuing bogus cheques to his business partners.



The first case was registered against Ali on May 10 for allegedly issuing a bogus cheque for Rs130,000 to Sheikh Tanveer Ahmed in December last year. The second case was registered on June 4, on the complaint of Naeem Sarwar Chaudhary who was handed a bogus cheque for Rs315,000 by Ali.

Chaudhary, however, had to move court for registration of an FIR. Chaudhry filed an application under Section 22-A of CrPC in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry though his lawyer Sabir Hassan Rao demanding registration of a criminal case against Ali.

He maintained in the petition that Ali, who owed the petitioner Rs315,000 in business matters, issued the petitioner a cheque for Rs315,000 on January 10 this year. The cheque, however, bounced back because of insufficient funds in the issuer’s account.

The petitioner said that he informed Ali that the cheque had bounced back and demanded the amount. The accused delayed the matter on one pretext or the other and then finally refused to pay the amount and also threatened him with dire consequences, Chaudhary maintained in the petition.



The petitioner then filed an application with Kohsar police for registration of a criminal case against the suspect “but due to influence of the accused ... police in league and connivance with the accused did not register a criminal case against the accused.”

A police official, who requested not to be named, said the investigation could move forward only when the suspect was arrested.

Kohsar SHO Rukhsar Mehdi said police were investigating the cases. Asked why the police were not arresting the suspect despite registration of two criminal cases against him, he said he could not tell as he had been transferred to the police station only a few days ago.
