PESHAWAR: Residents of Peshawar faced unscheduled power outages during Sehr despite claims by the Peshawar Electricity Supply Company that it will not resort to load-shedding in Ramazan.

While speaking to The Express Tribune on Tuesday, residents of Gulberg-1, 2 and 3 and Gulbahar complained about unannounced and prolonged power outages during Sehr.  Sohail Khan, a resident of Gulberg, said they were compelled to have Sehri without electricity. He said power outages had made their lives miserable and it was extremely hard to prepare food without electricity.

According to documents available with The Express Tribune, Gulbahar was among those areas where line losses were up to 30%. They read areas where line losses were 30% or below would experience no load-shedding.

Besides, areas such as Mattani, Badabher, Pishtakhara, Palosai, Landi Arbab, Dalazak, Warsak, Regi and Shahibagh would experience more than the scheduled load-shedding due to line losses of 50%.

Due to losses: K-P threatened with increase in load-shedding

A resident of Gulbahar, Saiful Islam Yousfzai, told The Express Tribune the area experienced unscheduled load-shedding from 3am to 4am. He said after an hour, Pesco authorities again resorted to power outages from 6am to 9am and again from noon to 2pm.

“The voltage was as low as 50-120 volts which could barely run an electric fan,” Yousafzai said.

Similarly, in Tajabad area, line losses were between 30-50%, as per the documents. The load-shedding duration should be between four and six hours, but the residents were experiencing over 15 hours of outages.

Expressing anger, a Tajabad resident, Danish Khan, said electricity was not available from 3am till 3pm despite people paying heavy bills. He said the duration of power outages has increased from the very first day of Ramazan.

Danish said people were even experiencing acute water shortages in the scorching heat.
