Accounting needed: MQM presents shadow budget

The party has proposed a new tax in the agriculture sector of Rs20 billion

KARACHI:
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has demanded investigations into the money spent by the government, while presenting a shadow budget of Rs689 billion for the Sindh government.

MQM’s Syed Sardar Ahmed presented the shadow budget in the Sindh Assembly premises and demanded details of expenditures and spending by the Sindh government.

“In the past nine months, around 38 departments of the government have spent Rs53 billion in the name of subsidies. Investigations should be carried out by anti-corruption or any other department regarding where the money was spent,” he said, saying that Sindh’s biggest problem is corruption.

The party has proposed a new tax in the agriculture sector of Rs20 billion. It suggested that under Article 140 of the Constitution, this tax should be collected by the local government.
