CHITRAL:

A woman councillor of Hert in Chitral, Zulaiha Bibi, has asked the government to rebuild her house that was destroyed in the floods. She threatened to commit suicide if authorities failed to do so.

“Most of the houses in our village were destroyed or damaged due to floods and torrential rains,” Zulaiha Bibi said while addressing a news conference at the Chitral Press Club on Monday.

“Locals shifted to safer places, but even after four months, we are waiting for the government’s help.”

Most of the villagers were residing in mosques for the last four months and many spent nights under the open sky in Mudaish and surrounding areas.

The government promised help, but no one contacted the locals, she added. Zulaiha Bibi said hers is a family of 11 people. She said if the government failed to help, they would commit suicide.
