ISLAMABAD:
At least eight people were murdered in different parts of the capital during May 2016, according to police record.

Police have been able to complete investigation and submit challan to the court in only one of the eight
reported cases. No suspect has been arrested in four cases, while suspects are yet to be identified in two of the cases.

Two murder incidents took place within the jurisdiction of Sihala Police Station, while one each in jurisdictions of Aabpara, Golra, Noon, Koral, Tarnol and Khanna police stations.

Golra police had arrested a man and his wife for killing a shopkeeper who demanded that the family pay their arrears in Mehrabadi area on May 15. Police said the family owed the shopkeeper Rs2,500. In this case, the police have completed investigation and submitted challan to the court.

Suspects yet to be identified

A young man was gunned down in an apparent targeted attack on Lehtrar Road within the jurisdiction of Khanna police on May 27. Police said a group of people riding 7-8 motorcycles and two vehicles came and shot dead Waseem on the spot, who the police said was around 22 years old. Khanna SHO Abdur Rehman said police had found a few leads in the case but had not identified the suspects yet. He said the murder was a result of rivalry between two groups of youth.


In a separate blind murder case, Sihala police recovered body of a youth from a graveyard near Sawan Camp. Police said Muhammad Azam, the victim, received bullet injuries to his face and head. Sihala police transferred the case to special investigation unit (SIU) of the police, unsolved, on June 2.

Suspects at large in two cases

In two cases, police are yet to arrest the suspects who had been nominated in the FIRs. Aabpara police booked Naeem for allegedly killing a woman in G-7/2 on May 18.

Investigation officer for the case told The Express Tribune on Friday that the police conducted raids to arrest the suspect but he was still at large.

Meanwhile, a woman was killed in Alipur Nai Abadi area within the limits of Koral police on May 22.

Police had booked a man and two women for the murder but have not arrested anyone till the time this report was sent to the press. Investigation officer, in this case, refused to divulge any further information.
