SHERGARH:
Qari Subhan, a Jamaat-e-Islami leader in Mardan, has been accused of swindling his party members and defaulting on payments worth Rs30 million.

These allegations were levelled by JI leaders Haji Gul Badshah, Haji Ghani Muhammad and Haji Shoaib. They were speaking to journalists in Shergarh, Mardan on Sunday.

According to the JI leaders, they sold eight shops in Sheikh Yaseen Gold Tower, Peshawar to Subhan for Rs30 million. However, the latter failed to pay the stipulated amount.

“Subhan had handed us a bogus cheque of Rs1.2 million,” one of the leaders said. “We did not receive the complete amount.”

They added a jirga was held to resolve the matter. During the jirga, the accused agreed to pay Rs5 million after every three months. However, the JI leaders said he did not keep his word and paid only Rs4.6 million.

The party leaders said Subhan was expected to pay the shortfall but he failed to pay the amount.

They revealed a case was registered against him in Shergarh police station. He was taken into custody but was subsequently granted bail. Subhan disappeared after the second hearing of the case.

The JI leaders pressed the relevant authorities to arrest the accused and recover the remaining amount.
