MUMBAI: Actor Shahid Kapoor shared that he intentionally didn’t want to be clicked with his Udta Punjab co-star Kareena Kapoor Khan at the trailer launch of the film as the media would then only talk about it.

There were reports that former lovers Shahid and Kareena felt awkward in each other’s company at the trailer launch where their co-star Alia Bhatt and director Abhishek Chaubey among others were also present.

Present at a radio station for the film’s promotion, when Shahid was asked about the issue, he said, “Just tell me how is it decided that two people feel awkward. That we were looking at each other in a particular way? What did you find awkward?” When pointed out that the two maintained their distance and didn’t click pictures together, Shahid added “Because if Kareena and I click pictures together then people will just write about it and keep talking about it only.”

Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh was missing from the trailer launch and Alia launched the song Ikk Kudi without the other actors. Even at the radio station on Friday, only Shahid and Alia were there. Asked about all four lead actors not coming together at any of the events, Shahid quipped, “We have just started the promotions. Abhi toh picture shuru hui hai (The show has just begun).”

Udta Punjab was earlier slated for a June 17 release, but the film’s issues with the censor board might push it ahead.
