BANNU:
More than 2,100 parents refused to polio drops for their children in Bannu as the provincial government started a three-day vaccination campaign in the district, an official told The Express Tribune on Friday.
“Over 190,000 children will receive polio drops in the district during the campaign and those children left out in the last drive will be covered this time around, he said. “We have requested clerics and political leaders of the area to persuade parents who refused and hope that they will pay attention to our request.”
Last month, the Peshawar district administration arrested 17 parents for refusing to administer polio drops to their children. The arrest warrants were issued for at least 200 parents on the same day. The district administration officials held a meeting with people from these areas.
The administration met at least 2,239 parents who had refused to get their children inoculated during polio drives.
DC Riaz Mehsud said the refusal cases needed to be brought down to zero.
