Constitutional crisis: ‘Stop Dar from acting as PM’
The petition was moved on behalf of Pakistan Awami Tehreek by its counsel Ishtiaq Chaudhry
LAHORE:
Justice Shahid Wahid of the Lahore High Court on Thursday reserved his ruling on maintainability of a petition seeking a declaration that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar could not act as prime minister in the absence of Nawaz Sharif. The petition was moved on behalf of Pakistan Awami Tehreek by its counsel Ishtiaq Chaudhry. He told the court that the Constitution of Pakistan did not permit transfer of the prime minister’s office to another minister. He said Sharif’s absence had caused a constitutional crisis. He requested the court to order National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq to call an emergency session and nominate a new leader of the House.
