ABBOTABAD: A man was killed by his brothers-in-law in Nawanshehr, Abbottabad on Tuesday. The incident occurred nearly 24 hours after he solemnised his marriage in court.

An official of Nawanshehr police told The Express Tribune Ghalib Khan, a resident of Khushal Khan Colony, said the deceased was identified as Waqar Khan, a diploma holder in electrical engineering.

“He lived in Abbottabad after he shifted from Langra village in Havelian tehsil,” he added.

According to the official, Ghalib said Waqar was betrothed to his maternal uncle Maqbool Khan’s daughter when he was a child.

“However, when he grew up, the girl’s family refused to have her marry Waqar,” he said. As per the official, Waqar was in love with the girl and the couple decided to elope on Monday.

“They had a court marriage and settled in Khushal Khan Colony,” he added.

A day after the couple got married, the girl’s brothers managed to trace them. They scaled the boundary wall of their house in Khushal Khan Colony and barged into their bedroom. The alleged killers have been identified as Aimal, Bilal, Fakhar and their accomplice Asghar.

According to the official, they attacked Waqar with axes and daggers and also broke his arms. Subsequently, they opened fire on him with an AK-47, killing him on the spot. The police were not able to ascertain the girl’s whereabouts till this report was filed.
