PESHAWAR:
In a show of complete recklessness and utter negligence, a surgeon at the Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) left a female patient at the operation theater and sent her back without a surgery despite having administered anaesthesia.

Dil Faroza, a resident of Swabi district, was examined by eye surgeon Dr Naeem at the outpatient department. He suggested she would have to undergo eye surgery.

Faroza’s son Alamzeb said the surgery would be performed on May 26 at 8am. He added his mother was shifted to the theatre in the morning. “We were waiting for a long time when technicians came out and said Dr Naeem had left, adding a female doctor would be performing the surgery,” Alamzeb added.

He told The Express Tribune his mother was injected with anaesthesia and was told the surgery would be performed on the same day so she was not allowed to leave. He added she was even dressed in hospital gown and all set for the operation which never took place.

The son added Naeem “played” with his mother’s eye, and he would take up a legal battle against the hospital and the surgeon.

He stated the surgery was finally completed at a private facility in Swabi. Naeem and the HMC administration could not be reached for their version despite repeated attempts.
