LAHORE: “Provision of justice to the victims of Model Town riots is necessary to avoid such state atrocities in the future,” Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri said on Sunday.

He was addressing members of PAT Central Core Committee via telephone.

Qadri said that like the Model Town riots, the government would not be allowed to undermine issue of Panama Papers by using delaying tactics. The PAT chief asked his party workers to attend a sit-on on The Mall on June 17 to show solidarity with the families of those killed in the riots in Model Town.

Earlier, members of the PAT Central Core Committee briefed Qadri about arrangements being made for the sit-in. Khurram Nawaz Gandpur said a letter had been written to the Lahore DCO informing the district administration about the PAT’s plan to stage a sit-in. He said the party was yet to receive response from the government in this regard.
