AJK defaulters: Power connections of govt offices severed
The secretary said that the operation against the defaulters will continue in all 10 districts of the AJK till June 30
MUZAFFARABAD:
The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) electric department on Friday severed power connections of several offices at the civil secretariat for failing to pay outstanding dues.
Several government departments and offices in the civil secretariat owe around Rs420 million to the AJK electric department, said an official.
As part of the drive, power connection of the central police office, additional chief secretary, secretary finance, election commission offices, public health, accountability bureau and other offices were cut.
According to the AJK electricity department, the accountability bureau owes Rs7 million, the public health department Rs146 million, the additional chief secretary office Rs102 million, the CPO Rs7.4 million, the finance department Rs7.4 million and the health secretariat Rs5 million.
“We are committed to continuing the operation against defaulters both in government and private sectors to ensure recovery up to Rs1 billion before the end of June 30,” AJK Electricity Department Secretary Fayaz Ali Abbasi said.
He said that if the Prime Minister’s Secretariat and the chief secretary office could pay bills on time, why could other departments not do so.
Abbasi said that more than 6,000 connections of defaulters have so far been disconnected in three districts of Muzaffarabad Division. He said that final notices were issued to the defaulters before severing the connections.
The secretary said that the operation against the defaulters will continue in all 10 districts of the AJK till June 30.
