Quality control: New food testing lab on the cards

The government has released Rs186 million grant for land acquisition near Thokar Niaz Baig for the construction of a food testing laboratory under the Punjab Agriculture, Food and Drugs Authority (PAFDA).
The laboratory is expected to become functional in January 2017.
This was disclosed at a meeting of a PAFDA steering committee at the civil secretariat on Thursday. Additional Chief Secretary Shamail Ahmad Khawaja chaired the meeting.
Various proposals for the laboratory were discussed.
Khawaja said recruitment of 87 scientists and other technical staff should be completed by September 15. The meeting also decided to start work on the Punjab Fertiliser Control Act 2016.
