LAHORE:

Lahore High Court on Wednesday stopped the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) from awarding a baggage handling contract.

Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza passed the order while hearing a petition moved by Air Cairo challenging the award of a baggage handling contract to another firm which had been denied earlier.

The petitioner’s counsel had told court that the CAA had sought quotations from firms interested in baggage handling at the international operations area of Allama Iqbal International Airport.

He said that four companies had submitted bids for the contract and the petitioner firm had qualified for it. He said the CAA had chosen its bid over three other firms on technical grounds.

The counsel said the CAA was now going to award the contract to a firm it had rejected earlier. He requested the court to stop the respondent from awarding the contract. The court stopped the CCA from awarding the contract and sought its reply by June 14.
