Sonam's theory on why Aishwarya sported purple pout
We just wish we had Sonam's self (read: over) confidence
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's purple pout at the Cannes Film Festival has become the talk of the town.
The Bollywood diva invited a lot of criticism after she sported purple lipstick during the premiere of Sarbjit at the 69th edition of the film festival, but she remained unabashed calling it a form of art.
Sonam Kapoor however, thinks otherwise!
The Neerja actor who also attended Cannes this year says Aish took a bold risk because she wanted to be “talked about”.
“The whole idea of fashion and make-up is for people to discuss it and I guess she wanted to be discussed. She achieved what she wanted to achieve with it, which I think is great,” said Sonam, reports Hindustan Times.

Sonam also reacted to Aish calling it L'Oreal's prerogative. “I don’t think she walked for L’Oreal that day. There was an Amul ad on it, people were discussing it. I think it was great to do it on a 15th year, it’s cool. She was trending everywhere," she quipped.
Both of the stars are brand ambassadors of the famous cosmetic brand. However, Sonam feels that Aish carried it off with “an aplomb.”
Aishwarya responds to 'purple lip' criticism
On a question about whether she would wear purple lips herself, Sonam said, “I have done purple lipstick in the past, I have even done black for a shoot... People haven’t spoken about me!”
Apart from Aish's lips, Sonam's saree-inspired dress was also trolled on social media, but the fashionista still thinks it was the best. “There were just one or two people (who cracked jokes on the dress) but I think it was my most incredible look. I don’t believe in taking anything personally. I dress for myself and I felt beautiful.”
Sonam also revealed why Ralph & Russo was her only choice this year. “They (Michael and Tamara) are very good friends of mine. I spent New Years with them. I wanted to do something Indian-inspired and they kind of love India and love me. That’s why I did jhumkas and a saree-gown, which I think was incredible.”
