A constable was killed while two others were wounded in a targeted attack in Manglore area of Charbagh tehsil, Swat on Tuesday.
Swat DPO Saleem Marwat told The Express Tribune the police were patrolling the area in a van when unidentified men ambushed their vehicle. A constable died on the spot and two of the officers were critically injured.
“Fazal Wahid succumbed to his injuries while Zahir Shah and Ubaid suffered bullet wounds,” the DPO said.
He added the police officials responded with retaliatory fire.
“A police van reached the spot and exchanged fire with the assailants,” he said. “However, the gunmen managed to escape after killing and wounding policemen.”
The officer added the area had been cordoned off and a search operation is under way to arrest the culprits.
This was the second attack by unidentified gunmen over the last 24 hours in Swat district.
