Anti-polio drive set to start

BAHAWALPUR: Health EDO Shahid Khaliq on Saturday vaccinated a child against polio during an event at the Government Tibbia College in connection with the scheduled initiation of a district-wide immunisation drive.

The EDO said the three-day campaign would formally commence on May 23. He said teams from the Health Department would go door to door to vaccinate all children under the age of five across the district in connection with the drive. The EDO said all arrangements had been completed in this regard.

Khaliq said 1,344 teams had been constituted on this account. He said 1,062 mobile and 150 fixed teams across BHUs, THQ hospitals and the Bahawal Victoria Hospital would vaccinate children. Khaliq said an additional 18 teams would be deployed across markets.

He said vaccines to inoculate children across Cholistan and riverine areas in the district had already been dispatched. The EDO said children missed in the campaign could be vaccinated on May 26 and 27.
