Dozens of residents of Kalkaan village protested against excesses by Khanpur Saddar police after a team allegedly broke into a house and brutalised the inmates.

The villagers, led by one Khursheed Ahmad, chanted slogans against the police. Ahmad said dozens of policemen had broken into his house after scaling the walls and had beaten up women and children.


He said the police team had claimed that they were looking for a proclaimed offender. He said that on their way out, the policemen had injured a blind man. Ahmed said the policemen had beaten his wife and children.

Others accused the police of taking away cash and other valuables and harassing women. Talking to The Express Tribune, Khanpur Saddar SHO Chaudhry Muhammad Younis said the team had searched the neighbourhood on a tip-off. He said residents of the neighbourhood had attacked the police team.
