Burglary: 27 tolas of gold, cash stolen from house in Sukkur recovered

Police arrest accused while co-accused surrender voluntarily

SUKKUR: Valuables including gold ornaments and cash stolen from a house in Shamsabad area situated within the jurisdiction of the A-Section police station were recovered by the Sukkur police.

The police have also arrested an accused while the co-accused surrendered to the law enforcers voluntarily.

Addressing a press conference at his office, Sukkur SSP Amjad Ahmed Shaikh said that Professor Shaista Memon, a resident of Shamsabad, had gone to her brother's house on May 3 to participate in the prayers on the occasion of Shab-e-Mairaj. Taking advantage of her absence, two burglars entered her house and took with them around 27 tolas of gold ornaments, Rs30,000 in cash and other household items, including television set and iron.

"We conducted investigations into the burglary and finally managed to arrest an accused, Amjad Shaikh, and recovered all the stolen valuables, including gold ornaments and cash," said the SSP, giving credit to his predecessor SSP Tanveer Hussain Tunio. According to Shaikh, the co-accused in this case, Amanullah Solangi, who was already on bail in another case, rushed to Sukkur, got his bail cancelled and surrendered to the police.

On the occasion, Professor Shaista's father, Ali Gul Memon, thanked the SSP and his team for recovering the valuables stolen from his daughter's house.

246 proclaimed offenders arrested in one month

Giving an account of last month's performance of the police, SSP Shaikh said that from April 11 to May 11 this year, 246 proclaimed offenders and 727 absconders were arrested. According to him, 14 encounters took place between the police and dacoits during the period, in which two dacoits were killed and three injured. Moreover, 41 dacoits were arrested and two gangs of criminals were busted during this one month, he added.

Talking about the arms and ammunition recovered during the campaign, he said that 11 shotguns, two Kalashnikov rifles and a sizable quantity of cartridges and bullets were also seized.

The SSP further told the media that during the one month, the police arrested 26 persons under the Narcotics Act and recovered 85 kilogrammes of hashish, 27 kilogrammes of bhang, 476 bottles of wine and six cans of moonshine from their possession.

The police also arrested 199 gamblers and recovered playing cards, cash and mobile phones from their possession, he added. During the last month, the police have seized 28 stolen motorcycles and eight four-wheelers. Appreciating the efforts of the City ASP, DSP and SHOs, the SSP directed them to make all-out efforts to curb crime.

Talking about future plans, especially in the wake of the month of Ramazan, the SSP said that special security measures are on the cards to provide fool-proof security to the residents and, particularly, the traders. Besides beefing up security throughout the city, patrolling will be intensified as well, he added. He also appealed to the media to pinpoint social evils in order to enable the police to root it out once and for all.
