LAHORE: The Planning Commission has approved a project under which the Punjab University will hold trainings in energy conservation, environment protection and related fields, said a press release on Friday.

A Punjab University spokesperson said the project would be completed in three years. He said trainings would be arranged under the project for professionals, engineers and scientists in energy and environment related subjects to help meet the shortage of expertise in these fields.

He said funds for the project would enable the university to establish state-of-the-art laboratories at its New Campus.

He said these facilities would be used to carry out high quality research on energy sources including solar and coal power.

The PU spokesperson said the project would be completed at a cost of Rs1 billion.

He said subjects on which trainings and research would be conducted under the project would include energy engineering, petroleum engineering and gas engineering, environmental engineering, energy economics and policy, energy auditing and conservation, international disputes settlement and industrial environmental auditing.

In the statement, PU vice chancellor Mujahid Kamran thanked Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal on extending support to the universities for undertaking research and capacity building activities.
