LAHORE:
If a judicial commission fails to hold the corrupt to accountability, the masses themselves will do it, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) ameer Senator Sirajul Haq said on Wednesday.
Talking to a party delegation, headed by Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar, at Mansoora, Haq said there was massive corruption in government offices and institutions. “Offshore companies are a small fraction of the corruption taking place in the country.
More facts will be revealed soon. A judicial commission to investigate the Panama Papers issue should have vast powers to take action against the corrupt,” he said. He said that that the speeches being made by the prime minister and the ministers were only adding to the confusion. “The Panama Papers issue cannot be resolved through statements alone,” he said.
He said that the corrupt elite should fear the day that the poor surround their palaces. “A few families have held the country hostage. The national and international media has unveiled several faces involved in massive financial corruption,” he said.
He said that those who have a habit of flying to New York or London for medical treatment had no right to rule the country. “The children of the rulers are studying in foreign countries and doing business abroad. These people visit Pakistan now and then only to rule the country,” he said.
