Piercing void: Twin blasts deprive family of sole breadwinner
SPO Iftikhar was killed when a roadside bomb went off in Aslam Dheri village on Pajjagi Road

Special Police Officer (SPO) Iftikhar’s death will leave a piercing void in the hearts of his loved ones. As the sole breadwinner, he had shouldered the responsibility of his wife, children and siblings.
Iftikhar was killed when a roadside bomb went off in Aslam Dheri village on Pajjagi Road within the jurisdiction area of Mathra police station on Wednesday morning.
A resident of Khan Khel, Sarkha area of Mathra, Iftikhar was born on January 21, 1988. He joined the police in 2010 as an SPO and was serving in the jurisdiction of Mathra police station when he was killed.
One of his neighbours told The Express Tribune, “They were 11 siblings – five brothers and six sisters. All of them live in poverty”
He said Iftikhar was driven by the pressing need to help his family climb out of its current predicament. He belonged to a family that had witnessed dire financial straits.
“He was the sole bread earner of the family and made a fixed income of Rs10,000 a month,” he added.
Iftikhar is survived by his widow and three children. His oldest son, Husnain, was five years old while his youngest son, Abu Bakr, was three-years-old.
The funeral prayers for the deceased were offered at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines. Deputy Commissioner Riaz Mehsud, CCPO Mubarak Zeb Khan and other high-ranking police officials attended his last rites.
His body was subsequently taken to his ancestral graveyard for burial.
