Model Saara Hirji goes through many looks throughout her work day —  we talk to her about her personal style instead, find out how her body has changed and learn about her transition from a signature sporty look to a more classic one

Understanding your body is the key to looking good and a trait found amongst all impeccably dressed fashionistas. While people shy away from talking about their bodies, these brave souls explain how they work their anatomies to their advantage

How would you describe your body type?

I am petite and slender.

In your opinion what is your most troublesome area?

There isn’t any particular area that I’m concerned about, but there’s always room for improvement.

Has your body type changed over the last five years?

I have always been tiny; I wouldn’t say there has been a drastic change over the years. I never went to the gym to lose weight — exercise should be a foundation you build for yourself, it brings peace to the mind, body, and soul.

How has your style changed over the years?

Trends come and go but I’ve always held on to my sense of style, which helps me choose outfits that flatter my body type. I have gone for a more classic look from the sporty look that I used to prefer previously.

How do you dress your body according to your body type?

How you dress your body is very important. I’m quite petite, so I try not to let my clothes overwhelm my shape. In order to highlight my slenderness, I wear fitted clothes as I feel that balances out well.

In your opinion what is the biggest mistake a person can make while dressing here?

People here forget to take into account the environment and their body type. Sometimes when trends take off, we try and make them work in our wardrobes. But you can’t expect to always look great in something that is flattering on someone else —  you have to dress for yourself.

What silhouettes suit your body the most?

I would say, figure-hugging silhouettes and classic cuts. To emphasize my natural body shape, the silhouette has to capitalise on my petite body and feel comfortable.

What is the one piece of clothing that you shy away from wearing and why?

Being a model, you have to look good in everything, because that’s what designers and people expect from you. I love trying new trends and styles and I’m lucky that I can pull them off.
