ISTANBUL:
Hundreds of mourners in Istanbul on Tuesday laid to rest a mother-of-three who was killed while in her home at the weekend during clashes between leftist protesters and Turkish police.
Violent clashes erupted late Sunday in the flashpoint Istanbul district of Gazi, which is known as a stronghold of leftist opponents to the rule of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The woman, named as Pinar Gemsiz, a mother of three children including a three-month old baby, was playing no part in the protest and was at home when she fatally shot in the chest.
There is no indication who fired the fatal shot at Gemsiz, who was reportedly 33.
Initial reports said she was standing on the balcony although later indications said she was carrying her baby in the living room when a bullet was fired through the balcony window.
Around 1,500 mourners, many shouting slogans against the government and Erdogan such as "the assassin state will be brought to account" attended the funeral, an AFP photographer said.
The procession was led by her husband and a relative carrying the dead mother's baby, sleeping and wrapped in a blanket.
The mourners brandished identical pictures of Pinar Gemsiz in a white headscarf with the simple slogan: "Pinar Gemsiz is immortal."

Before she was taken to the cemetery, family members threw themselves onto the coffin is a desperate final farewell.
Many residents of Gazi are strictly secular Kurds and adherents of the Alevi branch of Islam, known for their hardline opposition to the Islamic-rooted ruling party.
