ISLAMABAD:
State Bank of Pakistan Governor Ashraf Mahmood Wathra has laid great emphasis on enhanced cooperation among central banks to develop regional correspondent banking channels for facilitating the trade and flow of remittances in the region.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the seminar titled “Payment Systems and Corresponding Banking in the Saarc Region,” he said there was a need for strengthening payment and settlement mechanisms.
The event, organised by the SBP, was held at the National Institute of Banking and Finance. “The regulators of Saarc region need to interact, coordinate and discuss payment system issues in order to find common solutions to facilitate trade, commerce and remittance flows,” Wathra said.
