RAWALPINDI: The rising temperature has led to an increase in sales of rabri doodh — a traditional creamy milk drink — in Rawalpindi, as the chilled drink provides much-needed respite from the heat.

Rabri doodh is prepared using creamy milk, khoya (dried whole milk), Chinese vermicelli, tukh malanga (chia seeds), and almonds with crushed ice.

The drink is a healthy, refreshing, and soothing treat in the summers.

It is highly favoured in the garrison city, where rabri doodh outlets continue to increase.

Well known outlets of the drink are found in Saddar, Raja Bazaar, Commercial Market, and Sadiqabad.

The most famous and the busiest outlet, Haq Bahoo Rabri Doodh, has been in business in Saddar for the last 22 years.

Its popularity has led the owners to open another outlet nearby to accommodate the ever increasing number of customers.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Danish Raja, owner of the shop, said that his father had started the business after moving
to Rawalpindi from Kashmir.

Kamran Ali, a resident of Gulistan Colony said, “My friends and I come to Saddar in summers and always have rabri doodh. It is so heavy that we cannot eat anything after it for at least two or three hours.”

He was sitting with
his friend outside the
shop, drinking the creamy drink.

Mukhtar Khan, who had come from Attock, said that he often visited Rawalpindi for business and in summers, he never left without having a glass of rabri doodh.

He said that though the drink was sold in Attock too, he loved the taste of the one served at Haq Bahoo.
