KARACHI:
To honour the silent heroes from the field of health, Pakistan's First Nurses Awards were held on Friday.

About 32 female and nurses were awarded for their tireless efforts in their respective organisations. Certificates of appreciation were also awarded to 30 nurses from 29 different government hospitals and nursing colleges.

Nurses are the true heroes of our country, said chief guest Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, sister of Pakistan Peoples Party's chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. The event was jointly organised by Pakistan Nurses Forum (PNF) and The Professionals Network at Marriott hotel.

The nursing profession not only helps people but also enriches one's personal growth, said Aseefa, adding that when you are in the nursing profession, compassion, respect, and humanity form a large part of the work.

Nursing is not a time bound job because the nurses work all day long, not only catering to the patients but also nurturing their families. Nurses should be appreciated every single day as they save thousands of lives and a single day is not enough to recognise their work, she claimed.

Nurses play a major role during natural disasters, remarked PNF patron Advocate Nadeem Sheikh. Things may go wrong but nurses stay firm and provide maximum assistance to patients, he added.

The same event will also be held in all other provinces of the country and next event will be held in Lahore, said PNF chairperson Advocate Saleem Michael.
